Description:

Bright. Seductive. A little dangerous.

Somewhere deep in the French Quarter—long before neon lights and crowded balconies—there was said to be a place called the Rising Sun. Some historians believe it stood on Conti Street in the early 1800s, a hotel where travelers stopped for drink, music, and whatever trouble the night had to offer. The building burned down in 1822, but the legend never did.

Others say the name belonged to a bordello hidden behind quiet shutters on St. Louis Street, run by a mysterious madam whose very name meant “the rising sun.” In New Orleans, truth and myth rarely travel alone.

The story lived on through generations of folk singers until it became immortal in “The House of the Rising Sun,”famously recorded by The Animals in 1964:

“There is a house in New Orleans…
They call the Rising Sun…”

Whether it was a brothel, a gambling den, or simply a place where too many souls lost themselves to the night, the Rising Sun became a symbol of temptation—the kind that pulls you in with warmth, music, and the promise of something sweet.

The woman on the label captures that legend perfectly. Half-clothed, with a string of pearls draped across her neck, she stands beneath a rising sun crowned with soft angel wings. She appears almost saintly at first glance—but there’s something rebellious in her gaze. Is she a fallen angel? A temptress? Or simply a symbol of the beautiful danger that once lived behind those doors?

In New Orleans, saints and sinners often share the same street.

This fragrance captures that moment just before sunrise in the Quarter. Bright citrus peels and sparkling grapefruit cut through the humid Louisiana air, softened by golden agave nectar and sugared lime. A hint of peach lingers like the last drink of the night, as the first light of morning spills over old brick streets.

Hand-poured in small batches with coconut soy wax and a crackling wooden wick, this candle is a tribute to the legends, the music, and the restless spirit of New Orleans nights that never truly end.
